Round 1/6

Field Survey
Count plants, estimate fish stocks and compare biodiversity.
Meadow survey
Assumption: representative quadrat sampling.
Sampling results
The true population is revealed after successful checking.
Collect data, choose a method or compare the two sites.
The biology
Quadrat density = mean count / quadrat area, in individuals/m². Estimated population = density × total habitat area. Percent frequency = occupied quadrats / sampled quadrats × 100. Capture–recapture assumes a closed population with equal catchability and thorough mixing. Lincoln–Petersen: N = MC/R. Chapman: N = (M+1)(C+1)/(R+1) − 1. Simpson diversity = 1 − Σn(n−1)/[N(N−1)]. Shannon index = −Σp ln(p). Species evenness matters as well as species richness.
