The maths
Estimated area = number of whole squares + ½ × number of half squares.
One square is 1 cm². When the shape covers roughly half a square, count ½ cm². For this game, an estimate within 10% of the actual area counts as correct.
The true area is calculated using many tiny sample squares, not guessed from the large grid.
