Fraction Frog
Place a frog on equal number-line intervals. Compare and order fractions, then locate mixed numbers beyond one whole.
The experiment opens when it comes into view.
Theory and model assumptions
With d equal intervals per unit, tick j represents j/d. Fractions a/b and c/d compare by the integer products ad and bc for positive denominators. A mixed number w+a/b equals (wb+a)/b. Generated targets lie exactly on the chosen tick grid. Jumps are discrete mathematical placements; no projectile or biological motion model is implied.
Teacher guidance
Keep the length of one unit explicit. Fraction positions use exact rational arithmetic mapped to integer ticks. Ask for common denominators or cross multiplication when ordering, rather than judging label size.
Expected time: 10–15 minutes.
