MIC 2026 is a team-based learning and competition event centred on 3D printing. Participants learn 3D printing, electronics and 3D modelling, then use those skills to design and prototype a solution to a campus-related problem.
The challenge is open to NTU undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as interested junior college and polytechnic students.
Yes. The workshops introduce the fundamentals of 3D printing, electronics and 3D modelling so beginners can build the skills needed for the challenge.
No. The modelling workshop covers the Fusion 360 fundamentals and introduces the main parts of the interface.
3D Printing Theory takes place online on 2 September 2026, 7 PM to 9 PM. 3D Printing and Electronics takes place in person at The Arc, NTU on 9 September 2026, 7 PM to 9 PM. 3D Modelling using Fusion 360 takes place in person at The Arc, NTU on 16 September 2026, 7 PM to 9 PM.
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three sessions because they are designed to prepare you for the competition. The Certificate of Training for 3D Modelling and Printing is provided only to participants who attend all workshops.
Only the 3D Printing Theory workshop will be recorded and shared with participants. Key materials and slides may also be shared by email, but the sessions are intended to be experienced live.
Yes. Bring a laptop for the workshops and competition. A limited number of spare laptops may be available. Email the organisers as soon as possible if you need one and did not indicate this during registration.
Fusion 360, Arduino IDE and Bambu Studio will be used throughout the workshops and competition. They are available for Windows and macOS. Use the installation guides in the participant handbook before the workshops.
A mouse is highly recommended because it makes navigating the Fusion 360 interface easier.
Register individually. Teams will be formed closer to the competition.
Teams of 7 to 8 will be formed with a mix of undergraduate, postgraduate and pre-university participants. This supports varied skills and collaborative learning.
Participants can meet peers and form teams during the workshops. Teams are expected to be finalised about one week before the competition. The committee may adjust team membership to support fairness and ensure no participant is left out.
The competition takes place at The Arc, NTU from 28 September to 1 October 2026.
Yes. Participants must be physically present at NTU for the competition.
Teams receive a problem statement and assessment criteria, develop a solution, 3D-print and test prototypes, then present their final solution.
28 September: 9 AM to 6 PM, Competition Day 1. 29 September: 9 AM to 1 PM, Preliminary Round, followed by 1 PM to 6 PM for shortlisted teams. 30 September: 9 AM to 6 PM, prototype development and printing for shortlisted teams. 1 October: 9 AM to 1 PM, final presentations and judging. Only the six shortlisted teams continue on 30 September and 1 October. The final showcase and lunch on 1 October are open to all participants and interested NTU community members.
Yes. Each team will have access to a 3D printer, materials and the equipment required for the challenge.
Challenge printing begins during the competition itself.
Participants are expected to be available on 28 and 29 September. Shortlisted teams continue on 30 September and 1 October. Tell the organisers as early as possible if you cannot attend on 28 or 29 September so the place can be offered to another participant.
Meals are provided during the competition, including lunch and refreshments.
Yes. Participants receive an MIC 2026 event T-shirt.
Participants who attend all workshops receive a certificate highlighting the 3D modelling and printing training. Challenge winners also receive a Certificate of Achievement.
First prize is $1,500, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500.
